Since its establishment, the IRA has been engaged in: i) research and training activities on desertification issues, ii) mitigation actions in collaboration with other institutions, iii) cooperation projects with partners from Europe and Africa. Research activities carried out by the IRA researchers aim at both deepening the knowledge and understanding of erosion and other desertification processes and checking the best solutions for the economic/ecological development of arid lands. The development of arid lands is founded on the restoration of affected zones and on using the best practices in water, soil, plant and animal management. Social and economic aspects are also studied, especially concerning production systems dynamics. Activity in the frame of the Projet DesertNet:
Tunisia is the African Country involved in the project DesertNet with the IRA (Institut des Régions Arides).
