The Regione Liguria has activated in the field of sustainability and natural resources management, by proposing, promoting and joining several initiatives aiming to favour and support sustainable management of the territory. At a local level the Region has established plans proposing good practices in farming and favouring integration among sustainable management and the economic valorisation of tourist areas. Studies on Environmental Evaluation for plans concerning the development of the territory has been done. Moreover, the Regione Liguria has been a partner for many Europeans and Extra-European projects, such as the campaign EC known as SEE "Sustainable Energy Europe" to promote sustainable energy use; the Interreg Projects ALCOTRA (Use and Sustainable Management of renewable energy sources in protected areas, SIC and natural parks in the territory of the Region), Metropole Nature (Natural areas and sustainable town), MARS (Monitoring Sustainable Development of the Alpine Space), CVT (Centro di Valutazione Territoriale), DesertNet.
Activity in the frame of the Projet: "Study on degradation processes and prevention measures against forest fires" The aim of the pilot action, carried out in collaboration with the University of Milano (Politecnico di Milano), was to classify water erosion in a burnt forest and to analyse the effects of fire on the evolution of desertification processes. Experimental studies on the field have concerned 4 sample forest that have been subject to fire more several times. At a parcel scale, both natural and burnt soils have been analysed in order to compare hydrologic and pedologic conditions. At a basin scale, the ongoing progressive and regressive recolonisation of natural species has been evaluated and compared to the typologies of vegetation and soil identified. The pilot areas chosen have been the following: 1) Monte Amandola (Genova); 2) Bacino Rio Succu (Sestri Levante, Genova); 3) Bacino Rio Portigliolo (Varazze, Savona); 4) Bacino Rio Armareo (Finale ligure, Savona). The results obtained have then been transferred from the parcel to the basin scale by means of hydrologic and pedologic models.
